A Look Back at the 2015 WebFOCUS Advisory Council

This year’s WebFOCUS Advisory Council event proved to be a productive and informative gathering between some of our great customers and executives, who came together to improve the use and understanding of cutting-edge BI technology. With 32 attendees representing 27 companies, the meeting was akin to a special club; every attendee received face time with our senior product staff and high-level management.

Customers remain loyal to WebFOCUS because it keeps evolving and stays ahead of the competition. We cannot overstate the importance of customer input in this process nor how much we appreciate our customers’ time and dedication. This dedication was personified in Sandesh Bhat of Target, who flew all the way from Bangalore to participate in the council. Other customers who took part include Chubb, Insperity, FedEx, and one of our newest customers, JR Simplot.

During the three-day event, which was co-hosted by Senior VP of Business Intelligence Products Group Dave Sandel and myself, attendees had the option to choose from breakout sessions on Self-Service BI, Portal, Technical Content Management, and Premium Support. Information Builders’ Dan Grady was also on hand to discuss social media initiatives and offer our customers a number of ways to get more value out of their activity on social media.


Our agenda is generated by topics that customers have expressed an interest in hearing about and delivered by a variety of internal product experts. That said, everyone is also given time to outline their issues and request new features and functionality. The gathering is meant to be interactive and productive for all parties involved, a goal which we’ve never failed to meet. One example of this was the Worldwide Customer Services panel, in which customers had the opportunity to interact directly with Senior Divisional Managers Frances Gambino, Mark Nesson, and Tony Li. Some great ideas emerged from this session regarding new projects and initiatives, such as Virtual Expert Room, local Meet-Ups, Premium Customer Community, and Technical Blogs.  



Product innovation was another dominant theme of the conference. Kevin Quinn, vice president of Product Management, presented the vision for WebFOCUS 8.2. A new, integrated tool for self-service BI and Data Discovery (InfoAssist Plus), mapping, and Resposive InfoApp Design were some of the major new areas discussed. 

The 2015 WebFOCUS Advisory Council was an unqualified success that delivered value for both our participating customers and our executives, who are constantly striving to improve offerings and cater to the diverse needs of our users. We look forward to extending this collaborative approach to customer engagement throughout 2015 and 2016!
