The Art of Design for BI and Analytics
On Wednesday, August 24, 20 people from Information Builders’ local NYC User Group gathered at our headquarters for a different kind of meeting. For three hours they worked through user research and application design challenges in a day of User Experience (UX) and Design Thinking learning and doing.
The group was split into four teams, each facilitated by an Information Builders UX Coach, with Jeff Hendrickson, our director of UX and Visual Strategy, leading the challenges. Through mock interviews of a sales manager for a car dealership who has a big problem to solve, each team discovered the needs, pain points, and wishes of their end user.
Then they designed a solution, did further interviews to ensure they were on the right track, and finally presented their solution to the room. While each team's solution was different, they all satisfied the expectations of their user, and each team is to be congratulated on their enthusiasm, effort and collaboration. Well done all!
The program proved to be a big success and garnered positive feedback from the participants. Plans are underway for a follow-up session, which will dive deeper into the UX and Design Thinking process—all of which will help participants in any business intelligence and analytics project they encounter in the future.
